Anthonis Mavropoulos, a Greek citizen could have been the 150th passenger to perish in the March 11th Ethiopian plane crash had he not missed his flight by just 2 minutes and was disallowed from boarding.
The president of the non-profit International Solid Waste Association, Anthonis Mavropoulos was scheduled to attend the annual assembly of the UN Environment Programme, Athens News Agency reports.
Anthonis Mavropoulos shared his plane ticket on Facebook in a message explaining what really happened and described life as a knitted web of unplanned circumstances.
According to the Greek man, he was late for just 2 minutes but he was not allowed to board the flight ET 302. He resisted but he was placed on another flight to Nairobi.
Less than 6 minutes later, the police told him not to protest because the plane had crashed and he was the only survivor.
“The officer told me not to protest but to pray to God because I was the only passenger who didn’t board the ET 302 flight that was lost,” Mavropoulos said in his Facebook post. Anthonis Mavropoulos titled his Facebook post, “My Lucky Day”.
Ethiopian Airlines, flight ET 302 from Ethiopia Capital, Adisa Ababa to Kenya’s capital, Nairobi crashed 6 minutes after takeoff on Sunday 10th March 2019. The Boeing 737 had 149 passengers and 8 crew members; None survived.
149 Passengers on the Flight ET 302 are 32 Kenyans, 18 Canadians, 8 Americans, 7 British nationals and 4 Indians. Other nationals are Ireland, Nepal, Saudi Arabia, Djibouti, Belgium, Indonesia, Somalia, Norway, Serbia, Togo, Mozambique, Rwanda, Sudan, Uganda, and Yemen.
